County Schools Snow Make Up Days Announced

To make up instructional time lost due to inclement weather on December 6 and 7, Buncombe County Schools will be in session on Monday, January 3 and on Thursday, March 3.

These days were previously scheduled as teacher work days. The County Schools ask that everyone pass along this information because it is important for parents and students to realize that students will return from Winter Break on MONDAY, January 3, and not on Tuesday the 4.


Winter Weather Definitions

Ever get confused about the difference in a winter weather advisory, a watch or a warning?

Ever get confused about the difference in a winter weather advisory, a watch or a warning?  Here's the difference:

  • Winter Weather Advisory means cold, ice and snow are expected.
  • Winter Storm Watch means severe weather such as heavy snow or ice is possible in the next day or two.
  • Winter Storm Warning means severe winter conditions have begun or will begin very soon.
  • Blizzard Warning means heavy snow and strong winds will produce a blinding snow, near zero visibility, deep drifts and life-threatening wind chill.

Railroad Crossing signReport any problem - stalled vehicle on the tracks, damaged sign, obstructed view and/or signal malfunction - to the railroad immediately. Call the emergency notification number posted on or near the crossing, or notify local law enforcement.
