Healthy Tip: April 23 - 29 is National TV Turn-off Week

The idea behind National TV Turn-Off week is really simple – turning off the TV can improve your health and your life.

This is very important because number of hours people watch TV is at an all-time high! According to 2006 Nielsen data, the average American family has the TV on for 8 hours each day - an hour more than just a decade ago. Eat Smart, Move More

When the TV is on in the house, it’s not just the adults who are getting sucked in. The average American child will spend more time in front of the television (1,023 hours) than in school (900 hours).

So this April 23-29, encourage your family and friends to join people all across the world and celebrate the week by leaving the TV off and being physically active instead.

TV-Turnoff Week is supported by over 70 national organizations including the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, National Education Association, and President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
