Buncombe County Government took over operation of the WNC Nature Center, Buncombe County Golf Course, McCormick Field, Aston Park Tennis Center and Recreation Park in the early 1980’s with the adoption of the Asheville Buncombe Water Agreement.  Since that time, the County has invested taxpayer dollars as well as grant funds into the improvement of these facilities.  These facilities transferred to the City of Asheville on July 1, 2005 when the water agreement was dissolved.
