Ahoy readers! Set sail for Buncombe County Public Libraries’ summer reading program for 2010, Make a Splash—READ!

You might create a sea serpent, attend shark school, design a boat or discover an ocean of books. Summer reading programs are free and there will be activities for children of all ages.

The Friends of the Skyland Library are having a used book sale on Saturday, August 7 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. A preview sale for Friends members will be held on Friday, August 6 from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

We have a wide variety of books at great prices and all proceeds will benefit the Skyland Library.

RiverFest 2010 will take place at French Broad River Park on Saturday, August 14 from noon until 6 p.m. Gather coworkers, friends and family members and create a raft for the yacht race.

There will be live music, cloggers and performances by Asheville Aerial Arts and Baraka Mundi belly dancers. Local restaurants will have booths, and there will be local artists and vendors in the craft village.

Kids can ride, skate, walk, run and skip in costume with opportunities to win prizes for most creative, cutest and funniest in the Kids Parade.
