The top five Counties with the highest foreclosure rates as of May are:

  1. Clark County, Nevada (Las Vegas) with 1 in every 54 homes in foreclosure -- this is also one of the fastest growing Counties in the US.

  2. Lyon County, Nevada with 1 in every 60 homes in foreclosure.

  3. Yuba County, California (near Sacramento) with 1 in 63 homes in foreclosure.

  4. Osceola County, Florida (near Orlando) with 1 in 68 homes in foreclosure.

  5. San Joaquin County, California (Stockton) with 1 in 70 homes in foreclosure.

The Life and Times of Jane Hicks Gentry by Betty Smith
 

Local ballad singer, historian and author Betty Smith will present a program at the Weaverville Library on Tuesday, August 11 at 7:00 p.m. on the life and times of famous Madison County resident Jane Hicks Gentry.

The program is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Weaverville Library and the Dry Ridge Museum as part of the North Carolina Humanities Lecture series.

Box Sale at Pack Library - August 7 & 8
 

The Friends of Pack Memorial Library will be having a used book box sale on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Boxes of used books will be sold for $3 a box on Friday and $2 a box on Saturday.

Boxes will be provided and shoppers will fill the boxes with their own selections. All proceeds will benefit the library.
