Did You Know?

Computer lab volunteers are needed at the library.

Do you know computer basics? Have you a free afternoon most weeks?  If so, please consider volunteering to staff the Gates Computer Lab at Pack Memorial Library.

The lab contains 10 computers that are used primarily for public Internet access.  Typically, volunteers help lab users get started, answer simple questions, and collect money for copies.  In return, they can surf the 'net on the library's high speed Internet connection and benefit from discounted copies for their own work.

For more information, call Laura Gaskin in the Reference Department, 250-4733.

The Tax Drop Box has been moved.

The Buncombe County Tax Drop Box located in front of the Courthouse in downtown Asheville has been moved.  Due to the Pack Square Project construction, the drop box has been moved to a location near the old stage in City/County Plaza.  You can access the drop box for your tax payments by way of Spruce Street.  The City Water payment box has also been moved to the same location.  Here is a map of the construction.

Helpful Household Tips

  • Use a strand of uncooked spaghetti to test a cake for doneness when a toothpick isn't long enough or you don't have one.
  • To help stop meatloaf from sticking to the pan, put one or two strips of bacon in the pan before the meatloaf.
  • To get twice the amount of orange juice from an orange, hold it under hot water before squeezing.
